Moore Dance Project's Sacred Slave Stories

Moore Dance Project's Sacred Slave Stories Jeffrey Hartog

A five-time winner of prestigious awards for Excellence in Dance from the National Endowment for the Arts, Moore Dance Project presents Sacred Slave Stories, choreographed by Artistic Director Dario J. Moore and inspired by firsthand interviews with the nation's last generation of African-American slaves.  Produced by The Center for Contemporary Dance with support from National Dance Institute Center for Learning & the Arts, and developed under Moore's artistic leadership, Sacred Slave Stories is a series of modern dance vignettes based on archived slave narratives, as documented by the Federal Writers' Project (1936-1938).  Appropriate for ages 9 and up, vignettes are accompanied by theatrical readings from corresponding slave narratives and enriched with live performances of authentic slave songs.
