Wasted Love

Wasted Love

Wasted Love is a modern dance Girl-Meets-Boy (Not So) Fairy Tale set to the music of singer/songwriter Misty Boyce. The choreography explores the expected and unexpected meetings and partings of differently abled people as they move through a ‘New York City meets Hogwarts’ world where a Girl and a Boy wrestle through the thrills and trappings of romance.

If you like Misty's music you are going to want to come to our shows, because she will be performing with us! If you don't know her music yet, Wasted Love will be the perfect opportunity for you to fall in love with her work.

In addition to Wasted Love Born Dancing will present some of its original choreography inspired by and set to the music of Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, which premiered March 2016, including some re-worked and new pieces. Three generations of dancers, including Born Dancing’s elementary school students, will perform in this part of the production dancing on the moon and defying expectations.

The performances will have live music under Music Direction by Scott Sharrard (Guitarist and Musical Director for the Gregg Allman Band) and include photography by E.M. Whiteley as well as video by Cheyenne Picardo. Joining our production team will be a group of energetic adolescents (with Down syndrome) who will assist in Costumes, Lighting, and Stage Management.

Born Dancing, Inc. is founded on the belief that dance education and performance can be inclusive and be better for it. We produce inclusive dance performances and create dance education programs for Students With Disabilities (SWD) in New York City. Our performances and dance education programs have an overarching goal of providing SWD with real-world dance performance and production experiences, apprenticeships to learn job and social skills, and internships in performing arts production and related fields to facilitate employment and help combat the disproportionate unemployment rates facing people with disabilities.

Our unique dance performances bring together a broad range of differently abled performers, including professional dancers, musicians, adults with (physical) disabilities, and underserved NYC Public School Students With Disabilities (SWD).
