Fiscal Sponsorship

ABOUT

Through its programming, Dance/NYC seeks to advance the vast segment of independent artists and projects that have entered into an arrangement known as “fiscal sponsorship” with legally registered 501(c)(3) organizations. Under this arrangement, sponsors provide financial and legal oversight and share their tax-exempt status. By extending its purview beyond institutions, Dance/NYC aims to ensure the dance ecosystem in the metropolitan area is both expansive and equitable.

Primary activities through 2018 include quantitative analyses on fiscally sponsored artists and arts projects; targeted leadership training, networking, and convening; and a directory of online resources.

Dance/NYC work to advance fiscal sponsorship is being made possible with founding and leadership support from The New York Community Trust, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The project is also supported, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; the City of New York, Bill de Blasio, Mayor, and the New York City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Speaker, through the Department of Cultural Affairs, Tom Finkelpearl, Commissioner; and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dance/NYC thanks its fiscal sponsor partners.
