"THIS RUSSIAN DANCEMAKER AND HIS DANCERS ARE AMONG THE MOST FASCINATING ARTISTS BEFORE THE PUBLIC TODAY"

– San Francisco Chronicle

For 40 years, amidst the political maelstrom of Russia's artistic landscape, the defiantly controversial choreographer Boris Eifman has stunned audiences with “works that hinge on extreme theatricality, acrobatic pas de deux, and spectacular effects” (The New Yorker). In Eifman’s sensational productions, the costumes are sumptuous, the dancing is exquisite, and the drama is riveting. Trained in the classical style of Russian ballet, Eifman has created a brazenly theatrical language of movement that fuses narrative drive and philosophical inquiry. Long preoccupied with genius and the mysteries of the creative process, his past work has delved into the minds of peerless artists like Tschaikovsky, Molière, and ballerina Olga Spessivtseva. Now he brings his ecstatic imagination to the original myth of the artist: the sculptor that creates a human figure so imbued with vitality and beauty that he falls in love with her. Set to a score by Johann Strauss, Jr., Eifman and his gorgeous, agile dancers create a new take on this ancient tale of inspiration, obsession, and perfection.
