Mission Statement

Oxana Chi is a Nigerian-German dancer-choreographer, curator, filmmaker, and a 2017-2018 Artist-in-Residence at the Abrons Arts Center.
Drawing inspiration from her travel to 40+ countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Pacific, and the Americas, she developed her own kinetic language: a transcultural Fusion, alternating between energetic sequences and soft moves, and combining beautiful dance, dramatic expression, and poetic storytelling.
As the Artistic Director of Ensemble Xinren, Oxana Chi works with musicians who compose and perform live-music specially for her dance. One of her main collaborators is the French-Caribbean-Jewish artist and scholar Dr. Layla Zami, who accompanies her dance with saxophone, poetry and sounds.
