THE CENTER OF ARTISTIC REFINEMENT (C.O.A.R)

The C.O.A.R is the Purelements pre-professional training program designed to prepare students for careers in the arts. The program focuses on the development of technical abilities as well as the consciousness of the artist.  From September through June, students are challenged in various levels through the disciplines of Classical ballet, Modern, Jazz, West African, Hip-Hop, and more. Over the past 15 years, we have trained and guided our students to get into several of the specialized Arts High schools, Arts Universities across the Nation, and work as young professionals. We are dedicated to this work, for as they grow, so do we.

 

Inspired by our mission, “To empower people to reach goals through a culturally-rooted and disciplined artistic process.”, we work holistically to provide high-quality arts training for families residing in areas like East New York, Brownsville, Canarsie, East Flatbush, and beyond.

 

As a C.O.A.R instructor you would join the efforts to reach and expand upon the following goals:

Empower Black and Brown children to see the value in themselves
Give current and specific Artistic training and information
Create the next generation of professional dancers
Provide a safe, imaginative, hardworking, grounded, and supportive community for all students and families

 

We are looking to hire professional-level dance instructors to join our community. Sought after instructors are able to provide instruction through a range of professionally codified dance techniques.  We invite formally trained ballet Instructors, Modern Techniques of Horton or Graham, African dance techniques, Hip hop, and Tap artists to apply. If you love to dance and work with people of all ages, we look forward to meeting you. (NOTE: In compliance with Keys to NYC mandate, all Artists must be fully vaccinated to teach or enter facilities)

 

Responsibilities:

Ability to conduct professional level dance classes for the beginner to advanced level student
Provide a safe, challenging, and motivating environment.
Provide a clear methodology of movement that can be easily explained and demonstrated
Ability to communicate with a diverse group of teachers and students.
Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.
Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement.
Choreograph routines and select music for classes, workshops, and productions.
Conduct group and private lessons as required.
Keep up to date in your discipline and implement any changes to the dance routines and curriculum as needed.
Must be able to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with administration with any changes to availability/conflicts due to performance opportunities or personal matters.
Required to provide coverage for classes as it pertains to any changes to availability/conflicts due to performance opportunities or personal matters

 

Requirements:

Dependable, energetic, driven, creative
Experience as a Professional level Dance performer
Confidence as a choreographer or to explore movement phrasing
Supportive and interactive team player
Ability to communicate effectively with humans of all ages, sizes, beliefs, shades, genders, etc
 Previous teaching experience
 Demonstrate patience and leadership skills for all students, families, and other faculty
(A plus but not a deciding factor) Bachelor's Degree in Dance or qualification from an accredited college

 

Compensation: Rates are based on skill level, performance quality, previous teaching history.
