Call for performers:
Artist Ming Wong seeks Mature performers (40s, 50s, 60s, Male or Female, all ethnic backgrounds welcome), as well as Male performers (preferably non-white, all ages) part of his Performa commission Persona Performa to premier at The Museum of the Moving Image, Astoria on November 10th and 11th as part of the Performa 11 biennial.

Project Description:
Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 cinematic masterpiece Persona, in which an actress and her nurse exchange identities on a remote island, Ming Wong’s new work is a powerful meditation on cinema, performance and identity.
Twenty-four performers, each representing one frame of film, will become a living, moving , human film strip, winding its way through the Museum of the Moving Image in a series of choreographic moments inspired by images and ideas from the film Persona.
The show will then move into the main theatre, where the cast will perform a series of live sound and video experiments on a movie studio set.
Persona Performa promises to be a revelatory evening, a reflection on the history of the moving image and the nature of performance itself, both on screen and in real life.
***We are seeking Mature performers (40s, 50s, 60s, Male or Female, all ethnic backgrounds welcome), as well as Male performers (preferably non-white, all ages). Some experience in dance/movement training preferred.

About Performa
Performa, a multidisciplinary non profit arts organization established by RoseLee Goldberg in 2004, is dedicated to exploring the critical role of live performance in the history of twentieth-century art and to encouraging new directions in performance for the twenty-first century. In 2005, Performa launched the world’s first visual art performance biennial. Part of Performa’s mission is to present a biennial of performance in New York City that illuminates its critical role in the history of art as well as its enormous significance in the international world of contemporary art. Performa has presented three biennials: Performa 05 (2005), Performa 07 (2007), and Performa 09 (2009), each of which took place across four New York City boroughs over a three-week period in November, and was met with enormous critical acclaim. It will present its fourth biennial, Performa 11, in November 2011. In a short time, Performa has succeeded in presenting one of the largest non-commercial contemporary art events in the nation, reaching over 70,000 people and bringing together a broad international cross section of audiences.
Performa’s programs distinguish it from nearly every other arts organization in the country. The core principle of its approach is collaboration, and its aim is to set a new standard for the positioning of live performance in the international contemporary art world. Performa partners with artists and enables them to develop and present works in ways they have never done before; works with a team of international curators for its biennials; showcases presentations by established and emerging artists from all over the world; leads a Consortium of arts organizations, galleries, and alternative spaces throughout New York City; tours select projects nationally and internationally to extend the life of projects and present them to audiences outside of New York City; and produces publications and public programs that build awareness and contribute to the scholarly and historical understanding of live performance.

Berlin-based artist Ming Wong (b. 1971, Singapore) creates installations, video pieces, and visual artworks that examine the nature of identity from cross-cultural perspectives, often through the lens of popular and art cinema. Major exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2011); House of World Cultures, Berlin (2011); Frye Art Museum, Seattle (2011); Biennale of Sydney, Sydney (2010); GWANGJU Biennale (2010) Korea; He was awarded a Special Mention at the 2009 Venice Biennial for his solo presentation at the Singapore Pavilion.
