Open call for Latinx (and more) artists participate in open forum
Company: Dance to the People
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Compensation: Free Participation
WHERE DO I GET MY TORTILLAS
a??AN URGENT FORUM
a??
TO RESPOND TO THE EVER CHANGING USE OF LABELS
a??THAT CATEGORIZE US AS ARTISTS
This is an open call for latinx/immigrants/latinaomericanos/sudamericanos viviendo en los estados unidos
BUT ALSO ANYONE who has felt the pressure of referencing their "exoticism" as a (fill the blank) artist
to participate in the forum: where do I get my tortillas?
an evening to play with the labels and stereotypes we find while funding, creating, promoting and presenting our work.
We’re looking for panelists (we’ll do an un-conference model, so no need to prepare a presentation, just bring your questions… you know, THAT question you’ve been asking yourself for a while, maybe more brains can come to your aid) AND/OR people who would like to show any (short) live performance (performance art, dance, movement, theater or music) work on the subject.
We hope to find solace in each other, bitch about our common pains, and ignite collaborations to contribute to the understanding of our very complex identities.
Ideas, writings, and pictures of the event will go to a collective zine, and any other outlet we feel the need of.
Fill in the following form to register, and, if you can, give us your preferred dates. Once there's a date with enough quorum, we'll reach out with the event's full information.
