Subject: Wearable-Art Artist seeks dancer for performance collaboration

Fine Art Superheroes Pose Basil El Halwagy

My name is Basil El Halwagy.

You can see my artwork online at fineartsuperheroes.com, and @fineartsupeheroes on instagram.

I’ve always worked with dancers to bring my characters to life, creating engaging performances and great fine art photography. Here’s a little about my work:

I create wearable art/characters that embody ideals and tell stories. My characters represent embody the unique ideas in the realms of creativity, sciences, and spirituality, and I use my work as a vehicle to learn more in these areas, and explore what can be expressed.

I create my costumes by hand, using cotton unitards, fabric paint and eva foam. I use motifs from different cultures to create unique character identities which visually connect to each character's theme. After creating the suits, I collaborate with dancers to create live performances and photographs which explore each character's identity and personal narrative. Through my characters I uncover new ideas, make  connections and find answers to deeper questions about sciences, spirituality, myth-making, and the creative process.

I’m seeking a dancer to collaborate and create a dance piece to be performed at a venue in New York. The venue is a local museum with a family oriented audience, and funding is available somewhere in the range of between somewhere between $500 to $1000. I’d be happy to share venue details over the phone. The dancer must submit a budget to me after discussion over the phone. The time of the performance would be to be determined, sometime between February and June of 2019.

The dancer would have total creative freedom over the choreography of the performance, and as with a few parameters

1. they perform in costume (including some makeup).

2. I share with them who the character is and what they represent through materials I have written and photography I’ve created.

3. They would perform a work that is, to them, on the same theme as their character’s identity (examples may include ‘transformation’ or ‘bravery’)

3. The performance may be informed by either a personal experience/narrative, or the life of a historical figure.

4. The dancer and myself would maintain correspondence by email during the project and I would attend a dress rehearsal when the work is finished, bringing the costume and headdress so that the performer may practice in costume.

Please send me your resume and at least one video of yourself performing solo (preferably your best work).

Thank you

Sincerely, Basil El Halwagy
