About Dancers Unlimited

DU is a bi-coastal professional company based in NYC and Honolulu that creates powerful moveMEANT narratives for community advancement, through professional performances, creative collaborations and community engagement. Started in 2009 as youth dance classes during Furlough Fridays, when Hawai'i public schools were closed due to budget cut, DU has since transformed into a touring company with performance credits at: Booking Dance Festival / Jazz at Lincoln Center, Shanghai World Expo, US Embassy in China, Peridance Capezio Center, Jazz Choreography Festival, International Human Rights Arts Festival, Triskelion Arts Summer ShakeDown, NYC 10 / New York Dance Week, Contemporary Museum of Honolulu / Spalding House, Honolulu Academy of Arts, and The Modern Hotel. It also produced two sold-out full-length evening shows last March at The Actor's Fund Theatre.

The company continues to expand and finetune its community engagement programs.  In NYC, DU has offered over 50 free training sessions at its open rehearsals since 2015, providing an affordable solution for dedicated dancers to diversify their dance techniques and vocabulary. This spring, the DU is launching its new dance travel program, MoveMEANT Destinations (MD), in Oahu and Taiwan. MD explores the intersectionality between dance, culture, and social responsibility, with a specific focuse on indigenous practices around the world.
