Ballet Hispánico - Lighting Supervisor & Assistant Stage Manager

The Lighting Supervisor & Assistant Stage Manager (LS & ASM) is a part-time nonexempt employee of Ballet Hispánico reporting to and assisting the Director of Production. The LS & ASM provides oversight and assistance for all Ballet Hispánico electrics and lighting production activities and support the production goals of Ballet Hispánico including stagecraft, properties, scenery, and dancer management. The LS & ASM will execute lighting plots and will be a part of the advance, load-in (calling focus, troubleshooting, etc.), strike for all Ballet Hispánico theatrical productions. The LS & ASM is responsible for maintaining the production quality and standards set by the choreographers, designers, artists, and collaborators; and will assist organization in order to accomplish the goals set by artistic leadership.

The LS & ASM will also be the critical link between all artistic aspects of a show and the backstage environment. This position is responsible for all liaisons among dancers, directors, designers, and all internal and on-site production staff, as well as liaising with the front of house staff in each venue. The LS & ASM must make certain that everyone and everything involved in the production, from dancers and technicians to props and lighting, is in the right place at the right time, and thus ensure the smooth running of all productions in all performance venues.

Employment is based on the work weeks of the professional company. Led by Artistic Director & CEO Eduardo Vilaro, the Ballet Hispánico Company tours from 15 to 20 weeks each year and self-presents two annual seasons in New York City. The organization also commissions two to four new works each year for the company and fully integrates the company dancers in an extended program of educational activities. The organization’s artistic staff consists of the Artistic Director & CEO, Company General Manager, Rehearsal Director, Director of Production, and Wardrobe Supervisor. Ballet Hispánico is an AGMA signatory; the current contract extends through July 2019. The LS & ASM may also be called upon to manage other performance activities presented by the institution.

Duties and responsibilities include:

- Serves as Master Electrician for all Ballet Hispánico productions
- Draft lighting plots / associated paperwork as required
- Prepare Ballet Hispánico lighting and other physical goods for travel; manage such equipment on tour
- Assist with all aspects of load in load out for all Ballet Hispánico productions (and BHdos as needed)
- Assist with technical rehearsals and performances for the School
- Assist in overseeing all dancer safety protocols
- Assist in provide for dancer injuries and other performance emergencies
- Observe and oversee all dancer safety protocols
- Provide the company with all backstage information
- Manage backstage environment for technical rehearsals and attend studio rehearsals prior to performance
- Prepare and provide for dancer injuries and other performance emergencies

Valuable Skills and Abilities

- 3 years lighting experience
- 1 year stage management experience
- 3 years touring experience
- Vectorworks / lightwright Skills
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Dance history preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Highly organized
- Highly self-motivated
- Ability to supervise effectively
- Ability to effectively manage projects and balance multiple priorities while maintaining a positive outlook and working effectively in a collaborative environment
- Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate them
- Takes direction well
- Valid Driver License
- Valid Passport
- Ability to Lift 50-100 lbs
