Chiron in Leo uses dance and movement-based performance as a practice of exploring what healing trauma is and asks if a fort could provide an imaginative space that both conjure up the memories locked away by trauma and safely supports the conjurer and the audience as they witness a struggle with the Chironian wound.

7pm, Ayano Elson

This site-specific showing at the Chocolate Factory is inspired by a cluster of physical, aesthetic, and sociopolitical concerns — silence, the memorialization and representation of landscape, and the value and division of time. Resisting and even negating temporal motion, chronological linearity, and outcome-oriented events, De, Dean, and Elson work together to dissolve a coherent sense of environmental space. Bodies and lights, along with Lera Pivovarova’s costumes, help to create shapes and surfaces that resist traditional patriarchal notions of action and climax. Elson uses performance’s constituent parts — time, bodies, color, and light — as materials to knit together dreamy, egalitarian spaces and dissolve small, discrete images into a larger whole.
