CRDANCE COMPANY PRESENTS PORTA REGIA
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
JANUARY 17, 2021 AT 2PM EST
CRDANCE COMPANY
In collaboration with Mauro Durante + Alessia Tondo
from Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino
PRESENTS
PORTA REGIA: A LIVE PERFORMANCE
SERIES
THAT INVENTS CHOREOGRAPHY IN THE
TIME OF ZOOM.
FEATURING ACTION EXCERPTS FROM THE
BALLET MORSO D’AMORE.
PERFORMANCE 1: Live on Zoom. Featuring action excerpts from MORSO D’AMORE, a ballet that upends the classic tarantella —a dance rooted in the traditions of Southern Italy during the 15th to 17th centuries. In MORSO D’AMORE (“Bite of Love”), the dance is imagined as a state of ecstasy or rebellion. Hosted by Artistic Director Caterina Rago and Executive Director, Cheryl Kaplan, CRDANCE COMPANY will perform in collaboration with live music from Musical Director Mauro Durante and singer Alessia Tondo of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. The music prods the audience to enter into the choreography’s moment-to-moment volatility as dancers and audience work their way out of the demonic fate that befalls Morso D’Amore.
What is PORTA REGIA? In theater, it often refers to a central stage door or entrance, but its origins also point to early Roman theaters, that, not unlike the world of Zoom, were temporary constructions. As a way of giving our audiences unprecedented access to the thinking that defines choreography in the time of Zoom, PORTA REGIA is a performance program meant to question the dramatic conflict of theater, film and technology.
