May 17, 2018 - 3:00 – 5:00 at the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, Halifu Osumare will be joined by lifelong friend, renowned poet and playwright, Ntozake Shange as part of PhenomenalWomen@RH, “a new series that will bring voices, insights and experiences of girls and women whose local, national and global activism, creativity, scholarship and perspective engage, provoke and inspire innovative paths to social justice and public policy.” With Osumare reading from Dancing in Blackness, A Memoir and Shange from her newest release, Wild Beauty, New and Selected Poems, these two Osumare and Shange will engage in conversation about the intersection of their lives and careers, and their imagining of the future.

May 17, 2018, at 5:45 Osumare will read from Dancing in Blackness, A Memoir at The Jody, the new Dance Research Center at the Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program at Hunter College. As Inaugural Speaker at The Jody, Professor Osumare will engage with young dance educators and dance makers about their intersectional roles as educators, creative advocates and change agents in an era of conflict. On May 18, 2018 at 6:30 Dancing in Blackness, A Memoir will be at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in Harlem, with Osumare in conversation with special guest artists from NYC professional dance community.
