January 14-25, 2019

Join us for twelve days of cultural exploration and intensive, professional physical training in the lush Southwest coast of India. Taking place in the port city of Kochi (Cochin), DISHA Festival brings an opportunity to immerse yourself in contemporary dance training from award-winning European teachers Jorge Crecis (Akram Khan Company, DV8, Punchdrunk, Rambert) and Lali Ayguade Farro (Akhram Khan Company, Hofesh Shechter). In addition, you will discover the Indian martial art discipline Kalaripayattu, and participate in daily yoga classes from local masters. Prepare to develop greater power in your dance practice through clear expression and direction.

Each day will begin with yoga in the morning, followed by contemporary movement workshops and lunch as a group. After a mid-day break, we will round out each day with Kalaripayattu training.

Alongside the workshops there will be plenty of opportunities to relax at DISHA or explore the Kochi-Muziris Biennale taking place in Kochi. Disha will provide information for professional ayurvedic massage to interested participants, and we can help schedule sessions at a special, negotiated rate. Classes and homestays are centrally located, with many art galleries, historical forts, monuments, restaurants, and cafes in the area.

Cost: 750€ (~$860)

Cost includes

    - Access to facilities (workshops, lecture demonstrations, showings, performances)
    - Lunch on workshop days
    - Lodging (homestays with local families)
