(for children (ages 5 -14) and their accompanying adults)
Start your summer with a refreshing dip into the world of PILOBOLUS  on Saturday, June 22, 2019
and our pre-matinee Family Dance Class.

The Pilobolus Family Matinee Event welcomes all to experience Pilobolus’ creative process.  This   workshop was designed for families and people of all ages and abilities.  The workshop begins with a brief warm-up and exploration of our principles of collective creativity and partnering basics. We will explore new ways to move alone and with partners, and collaborate to create original dances. The class is playful, group driven, and fun. This class is perfect for ages 3 and up with any level of movement background.The Family Dance Class will be held from 12pm-12:45pm.

About the Instructor:
Emily Milam Kent graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning a BSEd in Dance Education from the University of Georgia. Soon after, she began collaborating with Pilobolus. Emily toured with Pilobolus Too, a duet configuration of Pilobolus, and has been photographed for company calendars and books including Pilobolus The Human Alphabet and Twisted Yoga. Emily has choreographed and performed for corporate events and commercial performances such as Proctor and Gamble’s National Product Launch in New York, Europe’s IFA convention, and the 79th Annual Academy Awards. She has created original works for high school and university dance companies for Pilobolus and as an individual artist. She has set classic Pilobolus repertoire on high school and university students; she and her partner Matt Kent, were the first to have the process notated by a Laban Notator. Emily now works as the company’s Educational Programming Coordinator. She spends her days teaching and training teachers to bring Pilobolus’s ideals of collaboration and improvisation to young and old.

One of The Joyce Theater’s most popular offerings, these matinees—featuring family-friendly performances followed by special opportunities to meet the artists—are designed to create exciting overtures to dance.  Tickets are $10 for kids, and if they see all the family matinees available in a particular season, they automatically become Joyce Junior Members and save 40% on the price of their tickets — $10 reduced to $6. Kids (ages 6-14) must be accompanied by an adult.
