Free Master Class with Koresh Dance Company

Koresh Dance Courtesy of Koresh Dance

All dancers welcome!  Please join us in this one-time special master class led by Israeli-American choreographer Roni Koresh, as part of their performance run at Queens Theatre.  Master class is FREE!

Thursday March 14th from 5-7PM (please arrive early)

Queens Theatre Mainstage

14 United Nations Ave S, Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Class Description

A minimum of intermediate level jazz and ballet training is recommended for the core strength and body isolation required for this style.  The class will build on this training by infusing groundedness, breath, body percussion, stylized gesture and quick transitions between shapes and styles. In the Koresh Style, movement alternates between isolation and full body integration, and the use of bilateral movement to create new movement pathways.  Phrase work features periods of continuous movement that draw on emotion and individuality as well as aerobic fitness.

Koresh Dance Company

Roni Koresh is an Israeli-American choreographer whose style represents his experience in both cultures.  From his time in Israel with Israeli folk dance, performance with Martha Graham’s Batsheva 2 Dance Company, and his enlistment in the Israeli army, the Koresh style draws its strong sense of humanity, sweeping circle patters, military precision and Middle Eastern flavor.  After moving to the US, Koresh solidified his strong foundation in Horton, Graham and Luigi techniques, as well as experiencing social forms including club dancing, hip hop and pedestrian gesture. Koresh Dance Company was founded in 1991 and is based in Philadelphia, and is critically acclaimed nationally and internationally.  www.koreshdance.org
