GrahamDeconstructed

Martha Graham Dance Company in Secular Games Hibbard Nash Photography

The Martha Graham Dance Company’s Studio Series continues with GrahamDeconstructed: Secular Games on Tuesday, March 19, and Wednesday, March 20, at 7pm, at the Martha Graham Studio Theater, 55 Bethune Street (11th Floor), in Manhattan.

The latest edition of GrahamDeconstructed features the Graham dancers in a rehearsal run-through of Martha Graham’s 1962 work Secular Games. Set to music by Robert Starer, the work for 12 dancers offers a wry look at sexual stereotypes and the universal antics of humans trying to impress each other. The Company is reconstructing the original choreography, which has not been performed since the mid-1970s. Secular Games will be presented during the Company’s New York season at The Joyce Theater, April 2–14, 2019.

GrahamDeconstructed offers audiences a unique opportunity to view great Graham works up close and to hear about the artistic and historical context of their creation from Artistic Director Janet Eilber. The program provides a glimpse of the artistic labor that goes on every day at the Martha Graham Studios to preserve and augment Martha Graham’s great legacy.
