Haitian Dance Class

Haitian Dance Taught by Julio Jean

Julio’s Afro-Haitian: The dances and culture of Haiti partakes of three cultural sources: African, American, and European. It has been at the forefront of American dance, thanks to the pioneering work of Katherine Dunham. Haitian dance is a drum based movement style rooted in traditional Haitian folklore. This class will develop each dancer’s relationship to spatial awareness, body control, polyrhythm, percussion and pulse.
