Hip Hop and Break Dancing Classes with Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze dancing Homardpayette

The Library for the Performing Arts's Astor Gallery will transform into a dance studio for two nights when Mr. Freeze teaches participants of any level the hip hop and break dancing moves that made him a legend. A member of the Rock Steady Crew, Mr. Freeze is one of the original purveyors of hip hop and break dancing, and he donated his collection to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division in 2016. Growing up in the Bronx, Mr. Freeze started his dance career by battling throughout New York City. By the '80s, Mr. Freeze was competing in dance battles around the world, and appeared in the smash hit movie Flashdance.

After Flashdance, Mr. Freeze’s was featured in numerous movies such as Style Wars, documentaries, commercials, and music videos. He now teaches hip hop and break dancing around the world.

These classes at the Library are designed to welcome anyone with an interest in hip hop and break dancing, regardless of skill level. Participation in both classes is encouraged but not required -- come to just one, or both.
