Incoming Student Audtions

The Dance Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts fosters excellence at the intersection of dance performance, creative achievement and research inquiry. An accomplished faculty of artist-scholars work closely with students, providing mentorship and expert instruction in dance techniques, somatic studies, performance, choreography, pedagogy and theoretical studies

The audition dates above are for students interested in our BFA, EdM, or MFA programs in Dance. To register for an audition, all applicants must first complete the Rutgers University application as well as the Mason Gross supplemental application

LIVE AUDITION INFORMATION

The LIVE audition consists of a ballet barre (approximately 1 hour) followed by an hour-long modern dance class.

Applicants are required to bring a headshot with them to the audition. All applicants are required to wear footless tights and leotards. Sweatpants, legwarmers, skirts or shoes should not be worn, except for ballet slippers for the ballet portion of your audition. 

GRADUATE CHOREOGRAPHY SAMPLE:

Master of Dance Education (EdM) - All applicants who audition in-person or via the recorded option are encouraged to submit an example of choreographic work (10 minute maximum). Examples may contain work set on students. The link to submit a choreography sample is sent directly to applicants after the Mason Gross supplemental application has been submitted.

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) - All applicants are required to submit a choreography sample. Choreography samples should be uploaded directly to the supplemental application. Your digital portfolio should include samples of 3 selected creative works, limited to 12 minutes maximum including solos, and small and large group work (if possible).
