Intersections, Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company’s 20th Anniversary New York season and newest dance, marks a continuum of two decades of innovative dance production without pause. The Company is known for its playful virtuosity, accessibility and charisma. “A troupe I’d follow anywhere” (The Village Voice), a “troupe of fabulous dancers” (Backstage) that “can’t help but smile” (The New Yorker). “The dancers are flawless and picture perfect too.” (Show Business) “Radiant.” (The New York Times).

The celebratory season brings back favorite dancers and dances.

Who are these dancers? Artists making significant contributions to the field. The Company takes pride in its illustrious roster of dancers, past and present, that have significantly contributed to our history and repertory, including Michael Novak of Paul Taylor Dance Company, Jamie Scott from Merce Cunningham and Trisha Brown’s companies, Jonathan Alsberry, from Lar Lubovitch and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Stacy Martorana from Mark Morris Dance Group, making her return to the DGDC stage after three years.

With a trademark blend of humor, musicality and inventiveness, Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company provokes and entertains. This milestone season celebrates twenty years of superlative dance performed by a cast of exemplary longtime Company dancers.

The diverse cast includes Christian von Howard, Jason Garcia Ignacio, Derek Crescenti, Oren Barnoy, Vanessa Martinez de Banos, Lauren Kravitz, Frances Samson, currently dancing with the José Limón Dance Company, and the dancer who’s been with the Company the longest, Daniel Gwirtzman.

Sifting through twenty years of repertory Daniel, the Company’s choreographer, has culled classic dances and crafted these alongside a premiere, Intersections, into a program-length dance in the spirit of a Cunningham Event. Less retrospective than future-focused, dances have been recontextualized and reimagined. The program confirms the optimism for which the Company is known, while depicting sobering, harsh, portraits of today’s ill society. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
