Krishna Christine Washburn's Darkroom Ballet: Tuition-Free Dance Classes for Adults who are Visually Impaired or Blind
Company: Infinity Dance Theater
Venue: Movement Research
Location: New York, NY
Infinity Dance Theater is pleased to present teaching artist Krishna Christine Washburn’s Darkroom Ballet introductory dance classes for adults who are visually impaired or blind. Advance registration is required, as class size is limited. Email email@example.com to express interest.
While ‘ballet’ is in the name and the classes are concert dance-based, participants will develop a broad toolbox of critical skills that prepare them to sign up for an integrated intro dance class in any style elsewhere in the future. Among other benefits, the program builds skills in the areas of directional hearing, internally-based balance, and foot sensitivity. Although the two-hour classes are tuition-free, they are sequentially based, so participants commit to weekly attendance. No prior dance experience is required.
Most classes are held at Movement Research (150 First Ave, at E 9th St), though the venue may change from time to time.
Infinity Dance Theater is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, and Harkness Foundation for Dance as well as other generous donors.
