The Playground NYC allows dancers to experience various choreographic styles and ideas, engage with a new community of dancers, and gather resourceful information and inspiration from the array of choreographers involved. In turn, established choreographers are paid for their creative investigations, are given free space to explore new movement with professional dancers, and are provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with new dancers and fellow choreographers.  

BIO:
LAJAMARTIN is a physical dance theater company founded by Laja Field and Martin Durov. Originally from Salt Lake City and Slovakia the two met dancing for Johannes Wieland at the Staatstheater Kassel, Germany. Highlights of those years include performing in over a hundred shows, working with many inspiring colleagues, guest teachers and guest artists such as, Chris Haring, Stella Zannou, Helge Letonja and Hofesh Shechter. In 2015, Durov and Field moved to NYC, became founding members of VIM VIGOR dance company and performed in NYC, Santa Barbara with DanceWORKS and Panama Prisma Festival. Lusting for an avenue of their own, LAJAMARTIN launched and premiered their first work "Tatry" with DANCENOW in 2017 at Joe's Pub NYC and later in “Circulate” at Newcastle, England. As invited guests LM presented ”Lucy Part 1” for BRINE at the Leona Wagner Black Box in SLC and later that year, created “Spolu v Case” on the J.L Bella Conservatory in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. This year, LM was commissioned by Brigham Young University to make a new work on their CDT company, “R.A.I” will premiere in early 2019. Recently, LM presented “Unearthed” at Steelstacks, PA and performed an excerpt of the piece at Wesfest in NYC. They have also had the pleasure of teaching at Gibney Dance Center, NYU Tisch, the University of Utah, BYU, DeSales University, Newcastle College & Dancecity, England, Johannes Wieland Staatstheater Kassel, Contemporary Prostor Pro Tanec, Prague and the private Conservatory in Liptovsky Hradok, Slovakia. LM is excited to be apart of SALT dance company’s inaugural festival LINK.
