Open Air: Manhattan
Company: Ballaro Dance
Venue: The Brearley Field House
Location: New York, NY

Ballaro Dance presents a summer performance series titled Open Air featuring dance in outdoor spaces in five cities across New York State and Connecticut: Manhattan, Brockport, Buffalo, Sandy Hook, and Oyster Bay. Set in unique places (like community gardens, roof tops, and farms) the dancers will both interact with each space through site-specific performances, and share a traditional performance of the Company's repertory on stage spaces.
Open Air: Manhattan takes place on a rooftop with a gorgeous backdrop of surrounding churches and the neighboring community. The dancers will greet the audience with a pre-show, site-specific exploration beginning at 6:30pm, and the performance will start promptly at 7:00pm, finishing just as the sun sets.
Ballaro Dance will present a few of their "greatest hits" including audience favorites: Jazz For Six, a fun, care-free ensemble work exploring musicality and gesture, and Stairway To Nowhere, a quirky solo composed of acrobatic feats of flexibility and power paired with serpent-like characterization. Several other new dances will round out the repertory engaging audiences of all ages through the Company's energized approach to modern dance. The show will also feature cellist, Rob Bethel, playing live in both the site-specific and repertory performances.
