Brooklyn Studios for Dance (BkSD) is pleased to announce the presentation of Buck Wanner’s Sempervirens following a residency. Sempervirens runs October 18-20, 2018, 8 PM at Brooklyn Studios for Dance. The residency is curated by founder and director of BkSD, Pepper Fajans.

Sempervirens is a dance and music collaboration. In this performance, we sing sacred music heard in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris around the year 1200, while we dance with a continuous sense of simultaneous inward and outward expansion.

The Latin word “sempervirens” is often translated as “everlasting.” This dance works with that feeling. We are not “timeless.” Rather we are rooted in particular times and places — Paris, ca. 1200; Brooklyn, ca. 2018 — though we rely on experimentation and imagination to find our bearings across time and place. The performance is approximately one hour.

Sempervirens is created by Buck Wanner with musical direction by Stephen Higa. Performers include: dancers Megan Chu, Lydia Mokdessi, and Buck Wanner and singers Gideon Crevoshay, Stephen Higa, and Peter Sciscioli.
