Taking on Yellowface in Classic Dance Choreography

New York City Ballet soloist Georgina Pazcoguin and dancer-turned-arts administrator Phil Chan, founders of the “Final Bow for Yellowface” initiative, discuss their efforts to call out degrading representations of Asians on stage and how they are pushing companies around the world, especially around Nutcracker season, to create a more positive and nuanced representations of Asians in ballet. The program includes a performance by New York City Ballet’s “Rogue Ballerina” and soloist Pazcoguin and other NYCB dancers, viewings of archival footage, make-up demonstrations, costume displays and a panel discussion.
