Tarantata - Spider Dance

Belloni heads an exorcism I Giullari di Piazza

Percussionist/singer Alessandra Belloni, joined by her troupe of musicians, singers, and dancers, I Giullari di Piazza, present "TARANTATA - SPIDER DANCE," an ancient healing tradition with tarantella trance dances and healing chants for the Black Madonna and to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula.  In Italy, the ritual is traditionally celebrated on June 29th in a church in Apulia in Southern Italy, and here Belloni and troupe enact the ceremony at St. John the Divine.  The performance follows the healing journey of a tarantata as she is taken to the Shaman, who exorcises her with a pizzica tarantella, a wild erotic trance dance.
