The Emperor's New Clothes

The Emperor's New Clothes Angelina Bartolozzi and Meg Brusso

New York, NY – With ten years of creating accessible dance experiences under their belt, dance company Spark Movement Collective is roaring into a new decade with The Emperor’s New Clothes, an original dance performance for children of all ages.

In this modern reimagining of the classic tale, narrated in English and Spanish, Spark tells the story of an attention-seeking emperor obsessed with fashion. When a pair of traveling swindlers promise to make the emperor a fabric that is visible only to the truly smart and powerful, he cannot resist wearing it himself. Of course, the “fabric” doesn’t exist at all, but will anyone be able to stand up to false claims and fake news and tell the truth?

The Emperor’s New Clothes builds on the success of Spark Movement Collective’s previous shows for all ages, including Alice in Wonderland and The Velveteen Rabbit, and features original choreography by Artistic Director Chelsea Koenig. Audiences will encounter a fantastical kingdom of excess, a parade of fashion, and a frantic search for truth, and in signature Spark style, dancers will bring the audience into the creative process and onto the stage.

The Emperor’s New Clothes will be performed at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City, premiering on Saturday, March 7 at 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 at sparkmovementcollective.org. Remaining tickets, if any, will be available the day of each performance, 30 minutes prior to showtime, for $15. Tickets for children under 1 are $5.
