FANIKE AFRICAN DANCE TROUPE

Black History Month Celebration concludes with a 2-day presentation by the Fanike African Dance Troupeunder the direction of Patricia Ghizamboule Robinson, beginning on February 29 at 7:00pm.  This is the troupe’s 13th Annual Black History Month Cultural Gala Weekend and will include the premiere of Warrior, Save Our Home, a work that pays homage to the African American men in the community and those who are part of Black History.  The dance involves traditional African drums and culminates with the ritual offering of drink, to the memory of the ancestors - also known as a libation ceremony.   On Sunday March 1st at 3:00pm, the group will present a Day of Culture IIthat will include cultural workshops for the community; Talk, Walk & Dance - Storytelling and Dance workshops for the entire family, with participation byQueens Artist & Designer, Delali Haligahand featuring Fanike artists, as well as adult African Master Dance Workshop, African dance and live drumming with Cultural Consultant & Dancer, Shola Jones.
