Our Work

OVERVIEW

As part of its strategic planning process, Dance/NYC has refined its organizational focus areas to more clearly reflect its mission, values, and long-term vision for the dance ecosystem. These areas represent interconnected pathways through which Dance/NYC drives toward a more just, equitable, and sustainable dance field.

Research

Dance/NYC produces and disseminates action-oriented research that advances equity and inclusion across the dance ecosystem. Our studies illuminate the experiences of dance workers and organizations, highlight systemic inequities, and provide data-driven insights to inform policy, practice, and investment in the field.

Advocacy

Through collaboration, policy engagement, and community organizing, Dance/NYC advocates on behalf of the dance sector, regularly representing its interests to the City, State, and Federal governments as well as the philanthropic community. Using its research as a tool for change, Dance/NYC mobilizes the dance community to shape cultural policy, advance fair labor practices, amplify underrepresented voices, and strengthen the infrastructure that enables dance to thrive as both an art form and a labor force.

Regranting

Dance/NYC delivers financial resources to the dance community in its role as a regranting organization, redistributing funds to reflect the breadth and diversity of the dance ecosystem. We prioritize support for those historically excluded from access to resources—particularly disabled, immigrant, and ALAANA dance workers and entities—filling gaps and advancing equity through direct investment.

Knowledge Sharing

Dance/NYC fosters exchange and collective learning across the ecosystem through our convenings, digital platforms, and field resources. By sharing knowledge, data, and tools, we empower dance workers to shape their professional lives and support organizations in evolving toward more equitable and sustainable practices.
