Advocacy Alert: Budgets for DCA and NYSCA

Dear New Yorker:

It is budget season and time for all of us to support our City and State arts agencies by making the case for funding.

New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA)
The City's Preliminary FY 2014 Budget released last week allocates DCA $92.8 million, a 1.3% reduction from last year's preliminary figures. The FY 2013 Adopted Budget ultimately allocated $155.6 million to the agency.

New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)
The State's Executive Budget recommends keeping NYSCA's grant levels in line with FY 2013 levels and continuing NYSCA's grant program with the Regional Economic Development Councils.

Join Dance/NYC in supporting DCA and NYSCA by connecting with your legislative representatives-by phone, letter, e-mail, fax, or better still, in person. Forward, post, and tweet this e-mail to your friends and colleagues.

To help make your case for funding, use Dance/NYC research, including its recent State of NYC Dance reports and the Junior Committee's Workforce Census: Earnings Among Individuals, Ages 21-35.

With your help, I know we will succeed in keeping our arts agencies vibrant,

Lane Harwell
Executive Director, Dance/NYC @flashlane
