Jonah Bokaer Choreography and The Commons Choir (Daria Faïn & Robert Kocik), both with shared Tunisian, Francophone, and American origins, with common interests in architecture, choreography, poetry, and the overlays of the body, text, space, and performance, decide to share a Commemorative APAP NYC Season celebrating 10 years of common ground at CPR - Center for Performance Research. The two artists also share 18 years of shared embodied research: and a transcultural, international resistance against the “speed” of the APAP module in New York City in particular.

These very long-term artists and friends elect to fuse their 2019 APAP offerings together at CPR (both artists with common Tunisian, Francophone, and NYC histories) to set our culture’s troubles and highest aspirations, against performance gestures involving architecture, song, dance, and poetry, exploring the human capacity for empathy across difference.

Late Nights On Air
Founder of CPR - Center for Performance Research, Jonah Bokaer Choreography stages an iconoclastic vision of dance against the overlays of Charles Renfro’s new trans-cultural work of space and light, staged specifically at CPR, and available for touring in the coming 2 seasons.

The Commons Choir (Daria Faïn & Robert Kocik):
mayday heyday parfait
Commissioned by BRIC Arts Media, premiered November, 2017 with a cast of 23 performers combining song, dance, and poetry to illuminate how our stories and histories are irrevocably interdependent. For APAP 2018, The Commons Choir reimagines the piece on an intimate scale.

Landing Sites
Landing Sites is a dance theater work conceived and performed by Daria Faïn. In the future, the piece will also involve invited guests including dancers, a visual artist, a light designer, musicians, thinkers and friends. Landing Sites is an inquiry into the experiences of reality and their consequences in our lives. It will look at the immediate and long-term effects that our perceptions of reality have on the way we produce meaning, belief systems, and changes in our environment. It will manifest as an immersive sensory installation where movement, text, sound, vocals and light and material space will invite the audience to shift phenomenal perceptions.

Landing Sites is commissioned and will be presented by the Chocolate Factory in Spring 2020. This piece is currently in development through a nine month residency at BkSD and a residency at Zagreb Dance Center in Croatia supported by the GPS/Global Practice Sharing program of Movement Research with funding from the Trust for Mutual Understanding. Landing Sites has also been awarded the Saari residency in Finland funded by the Kone Foundation, where Faïn will work in June 2019 with one American and two European collaborators.
