"Kindred Wayfarers"

Dancing at Cedarmere! Marc Josloff

The Friends of Cedarmere presents “Kindred Wayfarers,” conceived and directed by Paul Baserman. Kindred Wayfarers is an historical pageant celebrating milestone birthday anniversaries this year of the great journalists, philanthropists and poets, William Cullen Bryant at 225 and Walt Whitman at 200, with the creative forces of Beth Jucovy, Scott Payne & Fred Stroppel– featuring Dance Visions NY and includes an original play in dialogue, live music, actors, singers and poetry presenters. (rain-date Sept. 15, 5:30pm)

Dance Visions NY, under the direction of Beth Jucovy, is providing the dance element for this event. Included are dance divertissements and enhancements for the theatrical narrative, the procession: “The Unfurling of the Hudson,” and featured dance presentations. These include an embellished version of Isadora Duncan’s “Roses from the South,” with live percussion, original dance works to two WC Bryant poems "The Planting of the Apple Tree” and “Robert O Lincoln,” and Isadora Duncan’s "Water Study,’" illustrating an excerpt from Whitman’s, "Song of Myself." The pageant will conclude with a dance party performed to taped and live music of Carla Cook’s “Dem Bones." Dance Visions NY is delighted to be an integral part of the multifaceted, multi-disciplinary historical celebration!

The company brings the Isadora Duncan artistic legacy into the present through the presentation of authentic Duncan works as passed on to Beth Jucovy through her 2nd generation Duncan mentors, as well as through presentation of highly original, contemporary works often seeded by the Isadora Duncan aesthetic

Dancers/collaborators: Louisa Cathcart, Ligia Gaissionok, Samuel Humphreys, Beth Jucovy, Hope Kroog, Rebekah Mulkey, Michelle Tilghman, Francis Walker

Dance Visions NY’s participation in the Cedarmere program is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
