Triskelion Arts is pleased to present Shouts & Murmers, an evening of new work by LaneCoArts with guest artist Guanglei Hui, this October in the Muriel Schulman Theater.

The Constitution of The United States is the basis of “Then There Are None”, choreographed by Lane Gifford in collaboration with dancers, as they translate its meaning to a larger abstract physical platform. In our current environment, it is difficult to ignore the colliding beliefs that are shaping this country. “Then There Are None” analyzes this phenomenon via five performers embedded in individual convictions. We explore elements from The Constitution and reexamine “E Pluribus Unum”, the original motto of this country as designed by the Founding Fathers in 1782.

A companion piece to “Then There are None”, “Askew” is designed to look specifically at aspects of our culture that are alienated and thus off-kilter. Five dancers representing five archetypes in society (finance, technology, a revolutionary, a poet, and a dissenting scholar) are the focus. Each archetype is further associated with one of the five elements (as identified by Greek philosopher Pythagoras): earth, water, fire, air, idea. The dancers, as both archetype and element, are entrenched in personal conviction and avoiding equilibrium.

In addition, guest artist Guanglei Hui presents “Star Tracks and Collapsar”. About the work, Hui says: “Every time we try to escape an ‘orbit’ of life, it comes back and throws us into another loop, another track. Every time we struggle to get rid of the ‘orbit’, we feel so excited to finally run away from it, only to discern later that all efforts were in vain.”
