Pappas and Dancers

Pappas and Dancers (www.pappasanddancers.com), a contemporary company previously based in California, is relocating to New York. We are looking for a male dancer with backgrounds in modern, post-modern, improv, and theater for performances of Monster at the Berkshire Fringe Festival July 28-August 1 as well as the development of new work. Called “compelling” and “mesmerizing” by the Los Angeles Times Monster uses theatrical imagery and grotesque creatures to explore the corporeal legacy of the Holocaust. Rehearsals are almost June 15-July 25. Travel expenses are paid as well as a small performance stipend.

Pappas and Dancers focuses on finding highly specific movement languages to reveal the body as an archive for personal and social histories. Since Spring 2002 we have performed at venues including The Yerba Buena Gardens, ODC, The Contemporary Jewish Museum, Highways Performance Space and Movement Research at Judson Church. Iterations of Monster have been shown nationally and internationally. We have received support from the Zellerbach Family Foundation, the Clorox Company Foundation, the Mellon Committee for Research on the Holocaust in American and World Culture, as well as a commission from The Wooden Floor, and residencies at Dragon’s Egg and Yaddo.

Auditions are by appointment - please email rkpappas@gmail.com or call 510-599-2325.
