Seeking ballet and modern dancers for “Dance Your PhD” Project

AUDITION:February 11, 2012
11:00-2:00

Seeking ballet and modern dancers for collaborative performance and film project using dance to demonstrate computer learning. Inspired by a TED Talk on using dance instead of power point to explain scientific ideas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlDWRZ7IYqw), Columbia University PhD candidate Apoorv Agarwal and choreographer Caitlin Trainor have joined forces on a “Dance Your PhD” performance and film. The film will be posted online and submitted to both TED Talks and Dance Your PhD.

Dancers should be prepared to audition in his or her area of expertise; either classical ballet OR modern dance, as the project will contrast the two forms. Dancers may audition for both forms if desired, but will be asked to stylistically distinguish shared vocabulary.

Dancers must be available for the full rehearsal/performance period:

Saturdays

10-1

Feb 25th-April 28th

*Additional rehearsals may be called as needed on Monday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings

Performance Friday April 27th. Film Date TBA- late April/early May.

This project does not provide financial compensation.
