Mich-Mash Productions seeks male and female dancers for upcoming performances at the Center for Performance Research September 5-7 and for future engagements. Rehearsals and performances are both paid and dancers must be able to legally work in the US. Dancers will be selected based on skill, suitability for a given role, and availability.

Dancers must have a strong contemporary and ballet movement background, and experience with partnering and contact improvisation is highly recommended. Having a lot of upper body strength will be a huge advantage. Cuts will be made throughout the audition with callbacks held the same day. A rehearsal schedule will be emailed to registrants prior to the audition. If selected, you must be able to attend every rehearsal.

Dancers will be considered for the following three works:

Perchance to Dream is a work about spiritual transformation and the cyclical nature of yin & yang as expressed by the transformative power of water. Incorporating traditional Chinese water sleeves, theatrical narrative, and extremely physical partnering, this piece shows how the parts of ourselves that we view as negative can in fact help us reach for and attain the positive.

The Asymptote to Zero Gravity is an incredibly physical work that showcases a movement vocabulary which fights the laws of physics. Beginning with the question “how can we walk on the walls?” Micheline Heal and her dancers worked collaboratively to develop phrase work that moves horizontally, vertically, and in mid-air – everywhere but the ground.

Café Cellulaire incorporates dialogue and comical partnering to examine cell phone etiquette, gender role dynamics, and how both relate to our continually shifting relationship to technology.

About the Work

Mich-Mash strives to examine the human experience through the lens of dance, resulting in works whose flavors range from theatrical to experimental. To bring these artistic visions to life, the company works collectively to generate choreography, collaborates regularly with artists in other mediums, and integrates projected multimedia into the final presentation. The end result is technologically-augmented dance theater.

Artistic Director Micheline Heal was recently nominated for 3 Dance Metro DC Awards, the regional award in the Washington D.C. area. In 2012 she was booked into the Stages of Healing Series in Bethesda, MD alongside the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. In 2011 she received a Young Artist Grant, federal funding from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. In 2010 she was a resident artist at the Firkin Crane in Cork, Ireland, selected alongside Kyle Abraham. She holds a B.A. in Dance and East Asian Studies from Oberlin College.
