University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance invites applications for an anticipated opening as Full-Time, Non-Tenure Track, Assistant Professor of Practice in Contemporary Dance Technique.

Principal duties include teaching one or more of the following: instruction in intermediate through professional levels in contemporary dance technique, partnering technique, modern technique and all levels of improvisation and composition. Responsibilities also include teaching dance history and dance and cinematic arts, staging choreographic works, counseling students on academic and career goals, serving on departmental committees and overseeing dance productions on a rotating basis with other faculty.

STARTING DATE: August 16, 2015. Initial appointment the period of one 9-month academic year. Renewal beyond the initial period of appointment is possible, but not guaranteed.

The hallmark of the newly-established Glorya Kaufman School of Dance — as expressed in its motto “The New Movement” — is the development of a new movement model expressed in new media, scholarship, studio practice and choreography for the 21st century. The school provides foundational insight, opportunities for artistic development, a diverse performance repertory, exposure to world-renowned practicing artists, dance conditioning, and strategic career venture skills.

Beginning in the fall of 2015, the Kaufman School will enroll its first cohort of BFA dance majors in a new state-of-the-art building dedicated solely to dance. Currently the Kaufman School has a robust non-major and minor offering in dance that is open to all USCstudents. The dance minor is designed to present undergraduate students with a focus on the discipline of dance as an educational tool for study and research, offering students an interdisciplinary experience compatible with a variety of majors.
