Musical resources for choreographers

Musical resources for choreographers Rachel Neville

Wondering where you can find composers interested in collaborating with dance?  Have more questions or concerns about working with music and musicians?  Periapsis Music and Dance is developing resources to help!  Just visit our site and create a free login, and you’ll have access to our informational resources, including:

- An international list of composers, linked to their individual websites, who are interested in dance collaborations.  You can peruse the list by city, visit the composers’ sites to learn about them and listen to their music, and reach out on your own if you want.

- Comprehensive guides, in FAQ format, on topics related to working with music, musicians, and composers, including:
    - choosing music and recordings
    - licensing music and recordings (i.e.—how to use music legally!)
    - understanding musical repertoire and preparation
    - logistic and practical issues related to particular instruments and ensembles
    - the economics of working with musicians and composers
    - rehearsing and performing with musicians; communicating effectively
    - making the switch from recordings to live performers
    - and more!

These pages are works in progress, and there’s already a lot of content available!  The Composer List grows daily as people sign up, and we’re steadily building the other guides, adding topics and details.

We’re offering these resources to facilitate collaborations throughout the music and dance communities, and we hope you’ll find them helpful!  Once you create a login at periapsismusicanddance.org, you’ll find them in the Artist Resources/Information area.  You can also visit the rest of the site to learn more about our own artistic work and to get involved.

Please keep checking back to discover what’s new, and you can join our mailing list and connect on Facebook and Twitter (@PeriapsisNYC) for updates!
