Details
In August 2016 Neshamah began working on our newest evening-length piece: Voyager. Voyager is a collaboration between Neshamah and AirSticks co-creator Alon Ilsar. Voyager is influenced by Carl Sagan's book "Cosmos" and performs the narrative of NASA's Voyager I & II through the soundscape of The Golden Record.
In January we had a works-in-progress showing at The Kraine Theater in Manhattan which included a performance of the piece as well as a panel discussion comprised of notable scientists and artists including:
- Dr. Tony Schultz - A physicist, teacher and motion researcher. He is presently at Sarah Lawrence College where he has taught in both departments of Dance and Physics.
- Kiran Rajagopalan - One of the leading young exponents of Bharatanatyam and graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience and Spanish in 2008.
- Dr. Donald Lubowich - The Coordinator of Astronomy Outreach and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Hofstra University and is currently studying the origin, formation, and chemical evolution of elements to test models like the big-bang nucleosynthesis.
- Jason Kendall - Currently an adjunct professor at William Paterson University, who holds a Master of Science in Astronomy degree from New Mexico State University. In the past he has led the Inwood Astronomy Project. He is also a board member of the Amateur Astronomers Association and a former member of NASA/JPL’s Solar System Ambassador Program.
After seeing the piece and participating in the panel Dr. Donald Lubowich invited Neshamah to perform Voyager at NASA’s Astronomy in the Parks (an event that Dr. Lubowich spearheads and organizes). This popular event will take place on the evening of June 2nd in Washington, D.C. on lawn of the National Mall.
We will also be performing at ShapeShifter Lab on the evenign of May 22nd.
In order to prepare for these performances, will be rehearsing this piece every Saturday in May from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Brooklyn College.
