DanceAction Dance Company directed by Argentinian choreographer Carmen Caceres is looking for one female dancer (movers, performers, or actors with movement experience are welcome), to join the company for the restaging of a piece to be performed during the winter season shows in New York. Rehearsals will be twice to three times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays between 7 and 9:30 pm, starting the week following the Audition, until the performances on January 11, 12, and 13, 2018 at Center for Performance Research, in Brooklyn, NY.
The Audition will take place on the following date:
Saturday 11/18 from 12 to 3 pm
To participate in the Audition please submit your resume, headshot, a dance/movement reel or video of a performance you are in (if you have one), and some words about you explaining why are you interested in participating in this project, to carmencaceresdance@gmail.com. Please include if you are available on January 11, 12, and 13 from 6 to 10 pm. The location will be confirmed upon registration.
The work: “To make a blindfold, measure the size of your head” explores the political persecution that resulted in kidnappings and the disappearing of more than 30,000 people during the period known as the dirty war in Argentina, and other countries of South America. It will be presented during an evening of performing art works inspired in social justice and political activism.
Performers may have a background in different movement disciplines (ballet, modern, contemporary dance, contact improvisation, physical theater, musical theater, etc.), but experience in improvisation and partnering is required. This work will be restaged in collaboration with the dancers, so I am looking for people who are creative and open minded to explore various ways of moving and performing. The piece will include moments of choice and indeterminacy that will allow the performers to be fully present in the action. Therefore, the capacity and experience to work as a team is vital for this project.
I hope this informs you about the work. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me at carmencaceresdance@gmail.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
