Women Choreographers of Color Call

ModArts Dance Collective (MADC) is thrilled to announce its nationwide call for women choreographers of color to submit to our third annual dance festival entitled, “Collective Thread”. Collective Thread will comprise of a 3:30 & 7:30 PM concert on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Dixon Place.

The purpose of Collective Thread is to provide a voice and a platform for artistic self-impression to those women of underrepresented ethnic groups within the medium of dance. 

Interested artists should complete and submit the application here along with a non-refundable $25 application fee sent through Venmo (account name: @ModArts_Dance). Choreographers are asked to submit a 5-8 minute piece (completed or works in progress) for the submission committee to review. (Please note: Due to the Letter of Agreement with Dixon Place, pieces considered for selection cannot have props, i.e. food, glitter, water, etc.) Twenty artists will be chosen to present their work. If selected, there will be a $50 production fee submitted through Venmo to assist with the costs of the venue and marketing items within one week of confirming participation. Participating choreographers/dance companies will receive a tech slot the day of the concert with 4 lighting cues, as well as social media exposure and complementary concert photos and video two weeks after the concert. Applications are due by 11:59 PM EST on Friday, December 15, 2017. Artists will be notified by Friday, January 5, 2018.
