The Public Theater (NYC) Seeks Black Female Identifying Dancers for a New Play

The Public Theater

The Public Theater is seeking three Black female-identifying dancers of all ages and body types to portray Spirit Dancers in our upcoming production of EVE’S SONG, a new play by Patricia Ione Lloyd. Jo Bonney is directing and Stefanie Batten Bland is choreographing. Please see below for more details.

SPIRIT DANCERS: Three Black female-identifying Dancers of all ages and body types who are the spirits of murdered Black women and girls both in the present day and through history. We are especially looking for performers with an openness and ability to tell story through movement and/or who are experienced with physical theater. These roles require fluidity between naturalistic, abstract and stylized performance. Embodying materials or objects, as well as emerging in and out of them. The Spirit Dancers communicate primarily through movement with the possibility of vocalizations and/or short segments of spoken text.

SPIRIT  1: Black. 20-30’s

SPIRIT  2: Black. 50’s+

SPIRIT  3: Black: Trans woman. Any age.

It would all be remarkably normal if it wasn’t for the fact that their house is possessed by the restless spirits of some long ago and some recently dead women.
