Battery Dance Festival represents NYC’s longest-running public dance festival. Initiated in 1982 by Battery Dance, the Festival has thrilled audiences in the hundreds of thousands for almost 40 years and showcased great dance companies from around the world alongside the best New York City and the U.S. has to offer, all free-of-charge to the public. 

The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and many local/foreign media outlets have accorded this event consistently excellent reviews and lavish features. As Battery Dance’s signature downtown community program, it has featured over 250 dance companies ranging in style from classical ballet to hip hop to Indigenous to tap to post-modern to Indian classical to physically integrated to styles based in nearly every culture on earth.
