Call for Entries for NYC's International Human Rights Art Festival
Company: International Human Rights Art Festival
Location: New York, NY
Compensation: Stipends will be paid, depending on the length of the piece
New York City's International Human Rights Art Festival (IHRAF) and Wild Project Theater issue a call for proposals for the third annual International Human Rights Art Festival, December 9-15 at the Wild Project, 195 E. 3rd Street, East Village, NY. We are looking for performance pieces in all media by NYC-based artists, which are built around a social concern. We are especially interested in work exhibiting the values of beauty, sincerity, vulnerability and engagement; work inspired by the open-heart of the artist, and not their anger, disgust or disapproval. We believe that words spoken from the heart enter the heart, while words spoken from the mouth or out of anger or frustration, never get past the ears.
Please send a description of the work, links, resume and any other information which might be of help in our decision to humanrightsartfestival@gmail.com. Deadline is June 1, 2019.
The International Human Rights Art Festival has produced more than 80 events featuring more than 300 artists since its inception in March 2017, at Dixon Place (NY). It has been covered in more than 30 media outlets (including the New York Times, NBC, Fox5, AM-NY, Metro-NY, Huffington Post and many others); has worked with politicians and performers such as Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman John Lewis, Kathleen Turner, Barbra Streisand and many more and WNYC is its media partner. The Wild Project has been the starting point of plays that have gone on to Off-Broadway and Broadway productions; has had their productions reviewed numerous times in the New York Times and dozens of other outlets, and has offered a nurturing, beautiful theater which brings together local, downtown artists and national and international performers and events.
