Cora Dance Seeks Dance Instructors

After expansion into a new facility in 2018, Cora Dance in Red Hook, Brooklyn has dramatically increased its educational offerings for the coming year and is accepting applications for experienced Hip Hop and Modern teachers as well as individuals with Youth Company ensemble interest and experience to work as dance instructors/directors in our Studio Program, September 26, 2019 - June 4, 2020. This position may be filled by one qualified candidate or multiple candidates who are the right fit for each offering and for the culture and mission of the organization. We are seeking experienced teachers to instruct the following classes:
- Modern Level 1 (Ages 5-7) Tuesdays 3-4pm *with walkover
- Modern Level 2 (Ages 7-9), Tuesdays 4-5pm
- Modern Level 3 (Ages 10+ Beg/Int), Tuesdays 5-6pm
- Hip Hop Level 1 (Ages 5-7) Wednesdays 3-4pm *with walkover
- Hip Hop Level 2 (Ages 7-9), Wednesdays 4-5pm
- Hip Hop Level 3 (Ages 10+ Beg/Int), Wednesdays 5-6pm
- Hip Hop Level 4 (Ages 10+ Int/Adv), Wednesdays 6-7pm
- Hip Hop Level 5 (Ages 12+ Adv) Wednesdays 7-8pm
- Hip Hop Level 1 (Ages 5-7), Fridays 3-4pm *with walkover
- Cora Youth Company Tier 2: (Age 11-15), Modern-based repertory ensemble performing guest artist work from a variety of disciplines, Thursday, 5:30-7:30
- TBA Youth Class (style and age level based on need and interest), Fridays 4-5pm
In addition to class instruction, candidates must be available at 2:00pm on teaching days to assist students with a short walk-over from PS15, 1 block from Cora. (Additional compensation provided for walk-over assistance.)
*Cora provides an after-school pick-up service from the school across the street. Artists teaching these classes will assist the Programs Assistant with escorting children across the street to class.
Cora Dance is a pay-what-you-can facility. We turn no one away based on ability to pay and give priority to NYCHA and Section 8 housing residents. We seek experienced working professional teaching artists committed to our values of excellence, equity and investment to provide quality training to a community often restricted from specialized experiences due to lack of means. Cora provides additional services to families in need to make access to the arts equitable for all families, including free snack, uniform dancewear and shoes and after school pick up service from local schools.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
A passion for and commitment to training, mentoring and inspiring young dancers
A minimum of 2 years experience teaching technique to young dancers in a studio environment
A knowledge of and engagement with the history of the dance technique being imparted
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds a plus
Strong classroom management skills
Organized, responsive, punctual with strong, consistent communication skills
Availability to commit to through the entire 2019-2020 School Year (September 26-June 4)
Bilingual a plus (Spanish/English)
