Assistant Teacher Training Program

SUMMARY:

RIOULT Dance Center seeks qualified and versatile assistant teaching artists to join its school faculty. Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and recommendation letter (PDF format is preferred). Appropriate candidates will be selected to attend a meeting set in September, consisting of details regarding the programming in which they may be staffed. Candidates should be aware that those who have completed the Teaching Assistant Program will be put on the sub list and considered for year-round staffing.

Assistant Teaching Artists support Dance Center faculty with class management in the Young Movers, Children & Teen Program, Dance Camps. Assistants must possess a strong interest in dance education, have the maturity and disposition to work with children in a bustling dance center and/or off-site, and have reached advanced proficiency in their own dance training.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

-Model movement clearly to support student learning

-Provide modifications and offer encouragement to individual students

-Lead warm-up or exercises when requested by the teacher-Be a source of positive and enthusiastic energy in the class

-Keep students on task and focused

-Manage student count/rosters

-Before class, greet students and assist with transition into studio. After class, support

students as they exit and ensure they have found a parent/guardian

-Keep an eye out for potential hazards (untied shoelaces, spatial awareness issues, etc.)

-Prepare and clean up studio area, props, etc.

-Escort children to bathroom or water fountain

-Work seamlessly with the teacher by anticipating his/her needs so that together you can provide a fun and supportive learning environment for younger dancers

QUALIFICATIONS:
Assistant Teaching Artists should have appropriate dance training, strong interest in the dance classroom, and find enjoyment working with children. Assistants must make a commitment to the classes they are assigned, attend every scheduled class. Absences are strongly discouraged. Assistants must be present for Parents’ Observation Days, aswell as end-of-year showings.

Requirements:

-Minimum age requirement 18 years

-Commit to both Fall and Spring semester

-Commit to two 2-class shifts per week or one 3-class shift per week

-Attend two annual faculty meetings

AVAILABLE SHIFTS:

Monday-Friday: Class times meet between 3:00am-7:30pm
Saturday: Class times meet between 9:00am-1:00pm
Dance Camps: Camps meet Monday-Friday for 4.5 hours (summer, mid-winter, and spring break)
