Urbanity Dance Company Auditions for 20/21 Season

Company Auditions Celso Enrique

Urbanity Dance is hosting auditions for our professional Company for the 2020-2021 season on Sunday, February 9th from 1-3pm at our South End studio in Boston. We are seeking male and female dancers with diverse movement backgrounds and a variety of skills.

The audition works as a class, including ballet tendu, pirouettes, a modern release combo, leaps across the floor, improvisation exercises and a final combination. The combo will highlight Urbanity's style, weaving fluid release "gooey" technique, with the ability to fiercely hit notes of choreography with specificity and attack. We're looking for wow-factor appeal and open-minded willingness to create.  Finalist will be asked to learn additional phrase work, and/or perform a 1-2 minute solo. Please bring music and prepare ahead of time. We suggest letting us know you're planning to attend ahead of time. Email photo and bio or resume to Cayley at cayley@urbanitydance.org. No audition videos in lieu of a live audition will be accepted for the Company.

Schedule: Company classes and rehearsals are September through May on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays from 10am-2pm.

Benefits: All company dancers are paid for rehearsals and performances. Pay for the the season is $7,000-$8,000. Free classes with master teachers. Company class four days a week, plus free access to any open class at Urbanity. Opportunities to work with nationally recognized choreographers. Opportunities to choreograph and produce their own work, with choreographic mentorship from Boston veterans. Chance to build your photo/video portfolio, and work with professional photographers. Touring opportunities.

What is Urbanity's style? The artists in the company influence the choreography, and we are currently seeking a new dancer who may offer a fresh perspective. We are looking for artists who have diverse range, can move lyrically, yet have the ability to fiercely hit notes of choreography with specificity and attack. Elements of ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, sports, and world styles are integrated. Experience with improvisation, acro, and partnering are a plus.  We're looking for wow-factor, appeal, and above all, an open-minded willingness to create.
