Kizuna Dance Seeks Spring & Summer Interns!

KIZUNA DANCE is searching for an intern for Spring / Summer 2020! Interested applicants should be interested/versed in Arts Administration, Fundraising/Development, and/or Digital Marketing. 

 

THE COMPANY:

Kizuna Dance is an international repertory ensemble that blends streetdance with contemporary floorwork to create dances that celebrate the Japanese culture. The company has performed nationally and internationally at prestigious institutions and festivals such as The Japan Society, Performatica, the Let’s Dance International Frontiers Festival, Middlebury Institute for International Studies, Gibney Dance, and Movement Research, among many others. In July 2019, the company had its French premier at the International Choreographic Festival of Blois on the National Stage, "La Halle aux Grains" in Blois, France. The company will travel to Japan in August 2020 to perform alongside renowned Japanese choreographer Toru Shimazaki’s company Dance Barbizon in showcases for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Committed to outreach, the company engages with every tour location it enters, connecting with community members through post-show discussions, lecture demonstrations, open rehearsals, and masterclasses. Kizuna Dance has lead workshops and residencies in fifteen states and internationally in Japan, Mexico, France, and the UK. Kizuna Dance was founded by Artistic Director Cameron McKinney, whose work has been recognized through fellowships from the U.S.-Japan Friendship Commission, the Alvin Ailey Foundation, the Asian Cultural Council, and through commissions from numerous institutions across the country and abroad.

THE INTERNSHIP:

Interns will be directly involved with fundraising, tour logistics, the planning of special events, marketing, and social media. Interns will be able to engage directly with the company and its Advisory Board on ongoing and upcoming projects, including prospective donor searches, creating a social media post calendar, venue research for future shows, event management, and booking rehearsal space. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Interested applicants should be able to work well individually and follow clear instructions, while also being willing/able to take the initiative to move projects forward. The ability to adhere to project deadlines is a MUST. Applicants must be detail-oriented, and be comfortable with both oral and written communication. Applicants must be comfortable with the Microsoft Office suite. Experience in photography/videography, photo editing, or WIX, Mailchimp is a plus, but not required. 

 

COMMITMENT: 

Intern must commit to 10-20 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship, but college credit can be given. Availability on Thursdays and/or Fridays, 10 - 2pm is a definite plus, but not required. 

The internship will begin as early as possible in February (Spring) or May (Summer) and last three months. Exact start and end dates can be negotiated after the interview process.
